Budgeting for Elearning? 5 questions to ask.

Questions to ask

Budget season is here, and if you are getting quotes from eLearning providers, you might find that they vary considerably for what looks like the same job.

That variation is usually about what did or didn’t get asked up front.

Five questions I’d put to any eLearning provider before I trusted their quote are:

  1. What’s included in this price? Scripting, voiceover, animation, SCORM packaging, LMS testing, hosting, future updates?
  2. How many rounds of revision come with the build? Two rounds versus unlimited is the difference between a smooth delivery and a painful one.
  3. Who owns the source files? If you ever leave them, can you take the project with you, or are you renting it forever?
  4. Have you delivered for an organisation like ours? Mining, healthcare, frontline shift work all have specific instructional needs. Generic isn’t always cheaper.
  5. Can we see some examples and contact some of your clients? A good developer will be happy to provide these.

The providers who answer these clearly tend to be the ones who deliver cleanly. The ones who deflect often quote low and bill the difference later.

What’s the question you’ve learned to always ask before signing off on an eLearning quote?
