NEWMONT TANAMI
Electronic forms
About the client
Newmont’s Tanami Operations is located in the remote Tanami Desert in the Northern Territory. The large underground gold mine and process plant employ approximately 1500 employees and contractors.
The problem
At Newmont Tanami, training materials were provided to trainees as paper documents, often being in excess of 30 pages each. Theory and practical assessments were also paper-based. Trainers were printing out and preparing all documents, then manually scanning the assessments and filing the originals when they were complete.
The solution
Edge Learning Services partnered with the Newmont Tanami Learning and Development team to convert the training and assessment documents to electronic forms. Trainee’s access the documents on the iPad and read the training materials on the device. Theory assessments are also completed on the iPad and can then be electronically transferred to an employee’s training file. Practical assessments are conducted in the field, by the assessor on the iPad.
The outcome
Trainers save a significant amount of time. Where trainers were previously spending around 90 minutes preparing paperwork for inductions, the new process can now be completed in less than 15 minutes. Trainers also have on-demand access to all assessments. This allows them to conduct unplanned assessments when the need arises without having to return to the office to print out documents. Time and printing resources are significantly reduced and trainers can now spend more time in the field, where they provide the most value.
